Subject: Job Opening – Pediatric Occupational Therapist – Gastonia, NC
Dreamweavers Unlimited, Inc. is seeking an experienced Pediatric Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) at our multi-specialty outpatient therapy clinic in Gastonia, NC, 20 miles west of Charlotte, NC. The ideal candidate will have a desire to build our OT program from the ground up. Founded in 2003, our practice is dedicated to providing family-centered, evidence-based care to children and adults with developmental, sensory, and motor needs.
Position Summary:
The Pediatric Occupational Therapist will assess, plan, and implement individualized therapy services for children with sensory processing challenges, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and other conditions affecting daily function. The therapist will use play-based interventions, sensory integration strategies, and caregiver coaching to support each child’s participation and independence. The therapist will also supervise OT assistants.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive pediatric OT evaluations using standardized tools (e.g., SIPT, Sensory Profile, SPM) and clinical observation.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans focused on sensory integration, motor planning, fine/visual-motor skills, self-regulation, and daily living skills.
Provide direct, play-based therapy using specialized equipment (swings, crash pads, weighted tools, obstacle courses, etc.).
Adapt and grade sensory activities to support optimal arousal, regulation, and engagement.
Collaborate with families to design home programs, sensory diets, and carryover strategies.
Work as part of an interdisciplinary team with OT assistants, Speech therapists, Infant-Toddler Specialists, Preschool teachers and Direct Support Specialists.
Maintain accurate documentation, progress notes, and treatment records in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Participate in continuing education and professional development related to pediatrics and sensory integration.
Ensure safety during all therapeutic activities, monitoring for overstimulation and supporting self-regulation.
Provide consultative services to adults receiving Innovations Waiver services.
Supervise OT assistants.
Assist with growing our team and OT program.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
Current North Carolina OT license (or eligibility).
Pediatric experience required; 2+ years preferred.
Ayres Sensory Integration® Certification or advanced training in sensory integration strongly preferred.
Prefer candidate affiliated (or seeking affiliation) with NC Tracks for NC Medicaid billing and credentialed with private insurance providers.
Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive pay range: $48–$52/hour (based on experience and certification).

Requirements
Required Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of sensory processing theory and Ayres Sensory Integration® principles.
Proficiency with standardized pediatric assessment tools.
Skilled in play-based, child-led therapy approaches.
Ability to analyze tasks and adapt sensory input for regulation and functional performance.
Excellent communication and caregiver coaching skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with families and interdisciplinary teams.
Flexibility, creativity, and compassion in working with diverse pediatric populations.
Experience working with children ages 1-21 with developmental delays and diagnoses.
Willingness to provide consultative services for adults with IDD.
Commitment to safe, ethical, and evidence-based practice.
Experience supervising up to 3 OT assistants.
